This pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below.
UK Translation
Single crochet (sc) = Double crochet
The Pattern
For this square you will need a 3.5mm hook
Chain 31.
Row 1. In the 3rd chain from your hook make a sc (the turning chain counts as your first sc). Sc in each chain – 30 stitches
Turn
Row 2. Chain 1 and slip stitch into the first stitch *make a berry stitch in the next stitch (yarn over and insert hook into the loop. Yarn over and pull up a loop then yarn over and pull your hook through the first loop on your hook – you should now have 3 loops in your hook. Yarn over and in the same stitch insert your hook and yarn over and pull up a loop then yarn over and pull through the first loop on your hook – you should now have 5 loops on your hook.
Finally yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on your hook then chain 1).
Then slip stitch* repeat between *and* across the row ending with a slip stitch in the last 2 stitches – 30 stitches
Tip – keep your slip stitches loose as you’ll be crocheting into them later
Turn
Row 3. Chain 1 and sc in the first and second stitches. *slip stitch into the top of the berry stitch (ignore the chain 1 when you completed the berry) then sc in the slip stitch* repeat between *and* ending with a sc – 30 stitches
Turn
Row 4. Chain 1 and slip stitch in the first 2 stitches. *Make a berry in the next stitch then slip stitch* repeat between *and* ending the row with a slip stitch
Turn
Row 5. Chain 1 and sc in the first stitch. *Slip stitch in the top of the berry stitch, then sc in the slip stitch* repeat between *and* sc in the last stitch – 30 stitches
Rows 6-30 . Repeat rows 2-5 ending on a berry row.
The Border
Make a sc in each stitch across the top and bottom.
For the sides, make 2sc in the side of each row that starts with a sc.
Add an extra stitch in the corners for the turn
