Week 27 of The 50 Stitches crochet along is the Turkish stitch. This stitch creates a beautiful pattern using shells and puff stitches
You can find the links for all the squares in the crochet along here. The free pattern is below, but if you’d like the ad free printable version, it is available either as part of my Lifetime Pattern Pass, or you can purchase it on its own for £5 from Ravelry
This pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below.
Single crochet (sc) =Double crochet
Double crochet (dc) = Treble crochet
For this square you will need a 3.5mm hook
For this square don’t worry about your stitch count after making the foundation chain. It does change from row to row, but we will be adjusting our stitches in the sc border so we end up with the correct stitch count.
Start with a foundation chain of 31
Row 1. In the 3rd chain from your hook (turning chain counts as a stitch) make a sc. Sc in each stitch across – 30 stitches
Row 2. Chain 1, make the alternate turning chain in the first stitch. Make 2 dc in the same stitch as the turning chain. Skip 3 stitches and make 4 dc in the next stitch. *chain 1, skip 4 stitches, make 4dc in the next stitch*
Repeat between *and* make 3 dc in the last stitch.
Row 3. Chain 1 and make the alternate turning chain in the first stitch. Make a puff stitch (yarn over and pull up a loop 3 times, then pull your hook through all 7 stitches) in the next chain 1 space. * After pulling through all the loops on your hook, chain 1 and make 2 dc in the same chain space. Chain 1 and make a puff2tog (puff stitch two together)
the first part of the puff is in the same chain space as the 2 dc. The second part is made in the next chain space in the row*
Repeat between *and* in the last chain space, chain 1, make 2dc, chain 1 and make a puff stitch but dont chain 1 after pulling through all your loops. Dc in the last stitch – you will have 32 stitches in this row
Row 4. Chain 1 and make the alternate turning chain in the first stitch. Make 2 dc in the same stitch as the turning chain. *chain 1 and make 4 dc in the middle of your puff2tog in the row below.*
Repeat between *and* chain 1 and make 3 dc in the last stitch.
Row 5 – 15. repeat rows 3 and 4
For the edges make 2 sc in the side of each row
Along the bottom make 1 sc in each stitch.
Along the top make a sc in each stitch including in the middle of the puff2tog. Don’t make a sc in the puff stitches at either end of the last row or in the middle puff2tog.
You should have 30 sc down each side, plus an extra stitch in each corner for the turn. This will make your stitch count as 32 stitches across each side and 124 stitches total (remember the extra stitch corner stitch is counted in the stitch count for both sides)
You have now finished your square and join and you can tie off and weave in the ends
You can now add the interlocking border, joining this weeks square to last weeks as you join. You can see how to do this here
