The Pineapple stitch is a type of puff stitch but it has a pinched top. This stitch is quick to work up and has a nice thick fabric, but be warned, it is a yarn eater.

This pattern is written in US terms, but the UK translation is below.

UK Translation

single crochet (sc) = double crochet

The Pattern

Start by chaining a foundation chain in multiples of 2 plus 2 (plus 2 chains for your turning chain)

Row 1. The Turning chain counts as a stitch. In the 4th chain from your hook make a pineapple stitch (yarn over and pull up a loop 4 times. You will have 9 loops on your hook.

Yarn over and pull your hook through 8 loops. Yarn over and pull through the last 2 loops) chain 1.

*skip a stitch and make a pineapple stitch, then chain 1* repeat between *and*. In the final stitch make a dc.

Row 2. Chain 1 and make an alternate turning chain in the first stitch. *In the chain 1 of the row below, make a pineapple stitch.

Chain 1*

Repeat between *and* ending in a chain 1 before making a dc in the last stitch.

Repeat row 2 for as many rows as you need.
